Alabama's income tax threshold still among nation's worst, study shows

Low-income families in Alabama owe state income tax at one of the lowest incomes in the country and pay the nation’s highest income tax bill on poverty-line earnings, according to a new report released today by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, a nonprofit, nonpartisan research group based in Washington, D.C.

PBS program on Alabama's tax system wins Emmy

An in-depth look at Alabama’s unfair tax system has received a prestigious Emmy Award from the Academy for Television Arts and Sciences. The program “Taxing the Poor” was first broadcast last April on the newsmagazine NOW on PBS. Producer Na Eng worked with Arise Citizens’ Policy Project to develop interviews and site visits for the report.
